Synopsis

Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, passionately pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway, a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn into their world of obsession, greed and danger. The breathtaking glamour and decadent excess of the Jazz Age come to the stage in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, and in Simon Levy’s adaptation, approved by the Fitzgerald Estate.

Marshfield Community Theatre is excited to produce this amazing adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby! This show will be directed by Kelby Lorenz.

MCT will be holding auditions for The Great Gatsby on Feb. 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. in the MCT Rehearsal Building at 430 McNabb Road, Marshfield, MO. The show will run April 13-15 at 7 p.m. and April 16 at 3 p.m. If needed, there will be callbacks on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.

We’re looking for at least 9 performers ages 18 and up. The audition will consist of cold readings from the show and prepared monologue performances from everyone who auditions.

What to prepare:

Everyone should prepare a memorized dramatic monologue no longer than 1 minute in length from an existing play. If you have any questions about your monologue preparation, please reach out at mfieldtheatreplanning@gmail.com.

What to do before your audition:

Please fill out our online audition form and then bring the following with you to your audition:

  • A list of potential conflicts for Feb. 26-April 16
  • A headshot to be kept with your audition form
  • Clothing you can comfortably move in, with closed-toe shoes
  • A willingness to step outside of the box and try new things

  • Jay Gatsby – male, mid 30’s, a romantic idealist, with a disarming smile
  • Daisy Buchanan – female, mid-to-late 20’s, Southern, with a voice that sounds like money
  • Nick Carraway – male, late 20’s-30’s, Midwestern, with a kind face and a gentle manner
  • Tom Buchanan – male, mid-30’s, Daisy’s husband, with a powerful cruel body
  • Jordan Baker – female, 20’s, Daisy’s friend, with an almost athletic build
  • Myrtle Wilson – female, mid-30’s, Tom’s girlfriend, New York, fleshy and sensual
  • George Wilson – male, mid-30’s, Myrtle’s husband, New York, spiritless and anemic
  • Meyer Wolfsheim – male, 50’s
  • Mr. McKee – male, 20-30
  • Mrs. McKee – female, 20-30
  • Mrs. Michaels – female, any age
  • Policeman – any gender or age
  • Dancers – any gender or age

Financial Considerations:

There will be a $20 fee collected from all cast members at the first cast meeting. Cast and families will also be given the opportunity to purchase (OPTIONAL) show T-shirts.

MCT does not want finances to be an obstacle for any family. Please reach out to your production manager at the company meeting if you need to discuss financial options.
